"Launching" of two CD's of my complete piano music:
Music for piano by Tzvi Avni
at the Felicia Blumenthal Music Center in Tel Aviv. The CD`s are dedicated to the memory of my late beloved wife Hanna who died on September 3rd 2005.
Hanna was the initiator of the idea and helped very much to make it materialize with the encouragement of Prof. Arie Vardi, who plays one of the pieces, as well as seven other pianists who formerly were his students and prepared the works especially for this project. The recordings were made at the Jerusalem Music Centre. The publisher is the Israel Music Instsitute.
The "Summer Nights" of Megève with Tzvi Avni
- July 24th, 2006: The world famous alpine resort of Megève (France) held their summer season series of concerts "Nuits d'été" in the presence of the composer presenting the "Prayer for strings" performed by The Polish Amadeus Ensemble conducted by Agniezka Duczmal at the Palais Des Congrès - full house.
Kaddish Performed in Poland
- June 2nd 2006: During the Shavuoth week I was in Poland with a group of people who are connected to Lublin. It was a very dramatic, emotionally exciting trip -- the climax of the events being a symphonic concert in which my Kaddish for cello and string orchestra were performed by the Lublin Philharmonic Orchestra at their concert hall, with soloist Maria Blaszcak - Szost , conducted by Dalia Atlas.

The Three Legged Monster a musical legend for narrator, piano and orchestra (text by Hanna Yaddor-Avni) - see special page on this website "Music for Children" - was performed with great success in May 2004 in two concerts by the Los Angeles Youth Orchestra under Russell Steinberg with Gates McFadden (star of the Star Trek: The Next Generation) as narrator. The piece has already been performed by several orchestras in three different languages in the States, in Germany and in Israel.
Five Variations for Mr. K. for percussion and tape was performed on March 9, 2004 in Munich, Germany and appeared on a CD under the title "Shma", together with works by Morton Feldman and Klaus Hinrich Stahmer.
Prayer for strings was performed on April 6, 2004 by the Lodz Sinfonietta under Simca Heled, at the Philharmonic Hall of Lodz.
Pastorale and Dance for clarinet and piano (1957) was premiered in a new version by Moran Katz (clarinet) and Iddo Bar-Shai (piano) at the Hôtel National des Invalides in Paris on February 3, 2004.
Epitaph (piano sonata No. 2) has recently been performed by Zecharia Plavin at Oxford University in England. It will also be performed by Bob Gluck at the University at Albany on January 30, 2005; at SUNY Stony Brook on March 3, and at Johns Hopkins University in February.
There was a Man - a short piece for French horn, was composed by Tzvi Avni in memory of his beloved ex-student and friend, best-seller writer, composer and computer expert, Uri Adelman, who had suddenly passed away of a heart attack.
Bridges for two violins (2004) will be premiered on October 10, 2004 in Saarbrücken. The piece was commissioned for a special concert in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Jewish-Christian Collaboration Group.
Paths of Time (string quartet No. 3), written in 2003 in memory of conductor Yuri Ahronovitch, will be premiered in its orchestral version by the Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion, as an obligatory piece at The First Yuri Ahronovitch Prize for Conductors in January 2005.
Meditations on a Drama for chamber orchestra will be performed by L'Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire under the baton of Avi Ostrowsky in eight concerts in different places in France at the end of February and the beginning of March 2005.
Mizmor for santour and chamber orchestra and Two Psalms for oboe and strings will be performed by the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra under David de Villiers on July 9th 2005 in Stuttgart.
The Three Legged Monster - Das Dreibeinige Monster - a musical legend for narrator, piano and orchestra (text by Hanna Yaddor-Avni) - see special page on this website "Music for Children" - had its German premiere on December 16, 2001 by the symphony orchestra of the Saarlaendischer Rundfunk conducted by Errico Fresis with narrator Michael Quast. Both performances on the same day were received with great enthusiasm by children and adults, including musicians and media people. You may listen to excerpts in the audio section.
Phoenix for viola solo (2002) was given its premiere by Rivka Golani at the Henry Crown Music Hall at the Jerusalem Theater, and broadcast live by the IBA on March 18, 2002.
World Premiere of Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra - The Israel Chamber Orchestra under Salvador Mas Conde with soloist Susanna Cohen premiered Avni's basson concerto (2001) on June 30 and July 1, 2002 at the Tel Aviv Museum. It was hailed both by the audience and critics.
A Special Tribute Concert marking the awarding of The Israel Prize to Tzvi Avni and Yehezkel Braun took place on June 4, 2002 at the Einav Auditorium under the auspices of the Mayor of Tel Aviv - Yafo. It featured several chamber and vocal works.
Mizmorei Tehilim (Three Psalms) for mixed choir was performed by the Choral Academy Choir conducted by Michael Shani on June 11, 2002 at the Israel Conservatory Auditorium in Tel Aviv. The work will be performed by a body of four choirs conducted by Avner Itai at the special concert marking the 50th anniversary of the Zimriya (World Assembly of Choirs in Israel) on October 31, 2002 at the Tel Aviv Mann Auditorium.
Summer Strings (string quartet No. 1) is these days on the agenda of at least three different string quartet ensembles:
1) The piece was performed by the Jerusalem Quartet on its European tour including the Prague Spring International Music Festival, the 2002 Vancouver Chamber Music Festival in Canada, the Music Festival at Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, the Cheltenham Music Festival in England, etc.
2) Summer Strings was also performed by the Israeli Russo Quartet on israel's Day of Independence at the Jerusalem Music Center and broadcast live on April 17, 2002.
3) The Minguet Quartet of Germany will perform Summer Strings at the Konzerthaus Berlin, Kammermusiksaal on October 22, 2002.
The American premiere of Fagotti Fugati for two bassoons was given by bassoonists Gili Sharett and Barrick Stees at the Brevard Music Festival in North Carolina on June 26, 2002.
Kaddish for cello and piano was performed by cellist Eduard Weissmann and pianist Philip Moll at the Schloss Gross Leuten, Berlin, Germany, on June 30, 2002.
Triptych for piano was performed by the young pianist Dorel Golan at the Ruhr Festival, Gustav-Luebcke Museum in Hamm, Germany, on July 13, 2002.
Makhelorca for children's choir was the central piece on the program of the Moran Choir under Naomi Faran at International Choir Contest in Takarazoka, Japan (the choir won the first prize of gold medal and $5000) and later performed in several public concerts in Japan.
The Ship of Hours for symphony orchestra will be performed by the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra under Yoav Talmi at the Hamburg Musikfest, Germany, on September 19, 2002 (at the Musikhalle Grosser Saal) and 21, 2002 (Norderstedt Tribuene).
Five Variations for Mr. K. for percussion and tape will be given its German permiere on November 8, 2002 in Bremen, Nov. 9 in Hamburg and Nov. 10 in Dresden. The composer will attend the performances and will comment on his piece which is inspired by episodes in the life of Franz Kafka.
